Steel Shelving Systems for Warehouses in Ohio (New & Used)
Steel Shelving Solutions for Industrial & Warehouse Storage
Steel shelving systems provide a durable and flexible storage solution for warehouses, stockrooms, and industrial facilities across Ohio. Midwest Material Handling supplies new and used steel shelving designed to organize parts, tools, and inventory while maximizing available floor space. These shelving systems support a wide range of applications, from open shelving for fast access to closed shelving that improves containment and organization. Built for strength and adjustability, steel shelving delivers reliable performance in demanding environments where efficiency, durability, and long service life matter.

Open Industrial Steel Shelving
Open industrial steel shelving offers an all-purpose storage solution for warehouses, stockrooms, maintenance areas, and machine shops. Clip-type shelving provides an excellent strength-to-weight ratio, with typical load capacities ranging from approximately 350 pounds to 2,000 pounds per shelf, depending on configuration and reinforcement.
Each shelf begins as a single sheet of steel and goes through a precision roll-forming process that creates a lightweight yet reinforced structure. Flanged edges strengthen the shelf perimeter, while box-beam construction along the front and rear edges increases rigidity. Double-flanged sides provide additional lateral support, allowing the shelving system to perform reliably without added bracing in many applications.
A significant advancement in open shelving design came with the introduction of the box shelf design, commonly referred to as boxer shelving. By over-cutting the steel at the front and rear and forming multiple bends, manufacturers create a boxed structure beneath the shelf lip. This design increases shelf capacity from approximately 350 pounds to more than 800 pounds using the same steel gauge.
Clip shelving systems take their name from the shelf clips that lock directly into notched uprights. These uprights feature notches spaced at one-inch intervals, allowing precise shelf height adjustment as storage needs change. For best results, we recommend bolting the top and bottom shelves directly to the posts while clipping intermediate shelves in place to create a tighter and more stable installation.
Standard open shelving features include 20-gauge steel shelves, welded front and rear box beams, powder-coated finishes, shelf adjustability in 1½-inch increments, and side and rear cross bracing.
Additional shelves are available to expand existing steel shelving systems. These shelves use the same clip-based design for fast assembly and include all required shelf clips.
Closed Industrial Steel Shelving
Closed industrial steel shelving provides the same strength and adjustability as open shelving while adding solid steel sides and backs for improved product containment. These panels help keep stored items organized and prevent materials from falling off shelves, making closed shelving an excellent choice for parts storage, bin systems, totes, and containers.
Closed shelving systems use 24-gauge steel side and back panels combined with 20-gauge steel shelves reinforced with welded front and rear box beams. Typical load capacities reach up to 800 pounds per shelf, with shelf heights adjustable in 1½-inch increments using shelf clips.
This shelving style works well in environments where cleanliness, safety, and organization matter, including maintenance rooms, parts departments, pharmaceutical storage areas, and warehouse picking zones. Additional shelves can be added as storage requirements change, using the same clip-based assembly for quick installation.
Bin & Parts Shelving Applications
Steel shelving systems pair exceptionally well with plastic or corrugated bin boxes, totes, and small-parts containers. Open shelving allows fast visual identification and retrieval, while closed shelving improves containment for smaller or irregular items. These configurations support efficient inventory management in maintenance areas, tool cribs, assembly operations, and parts rooms.
