Pallet Rack Repair & Inspections

Pallet Rack Repair Services Throughout Ohio

Pallet rack repair is critical when upright columns become damaged from forklift impact or pallet contact. Even minor dents in pallet racking can significantly reduce structural capacity and create serious safety risks. Midwest Material Handling provides engineered pallet rack repair and rack inspection services for warehouses throughout Ohio, helping facilities restore structural integrity and maintain compliance with current Rack Manufacturers Institute guidelines.

No matter how well forklift operators are trained, pallet rack damage is inevitable. The most common impact occurs on the front of upright columns, typically 12 to 24 inches above the floor where forks and pallets make repeated contact. When this happens, vertical and horizontal reinforcing members can also become compromised.

Even a small dent can weaken an upright. Once damaged, it should never continue carrying load without repair or replacement. Employee safety and operational protection must always come first.

Repair or Replace a Damaged Upright?

When damage occurs, two options exist. Replace the upright or repair it.

If there is a dent in an upright column, its structural integrity has been compromised. That upright must be repaired or removed from service. Continuing to load a damaged column exposes your facility to unnecessary risk.

Replacing an interior upright often requires unloading adjacent rack sections. In many layouts, crews must disassemble an entire row of pallet racking to complete the replacement. While the material cost of a replacement upright is typically lower, the operational disruption can be significant.

A pallet rack repair kit generally costs approximately four times the price of a replacement upright. However, repair is usually far more efficient from an operational standpoint. Most repairs can be completed in 60 minutes or less and typically require no unloading. In most cases, welding is not required.

The repair process is four to five times faster than frame replacement and requires approximately seventy five percent less product movement. For many Ohio warehouses, the reduction in downtime, labor, and internal resource allocation offsets the higher upfront material cost.

Custom Engineered Rack Repair Kits

Every pallet rack repair kit we install is custom engineered based on where and how the upright was damaged. The design is specific to the rack profile, impact location, and severity of deformation.

These are not generic sleeves or off the shelf components. Each repair solution is engineered to reinforce the affected area, restore structural performance, and maintain rack alignment and load integrity.

Once properly installed, the reinforced section becomes highly impact resistant. In most cases, it is very unlikely that the upright will sustain similar damage again in the repaired area. These repair systems are built for durability and designed to withstand future forklift impact.

Types of Repair Applications Include:

• Single Column Structural
• Front and Back Column Structural
• Single Leg Roll Formed
• Sloped or Cantilevered Columns
• Bolt On Vertical and Horizontal Braces
• Heavy Duty Column Base Repair

Our team identifies the correct repair configuration based on rack manufacturer, upright profile, damage location, and load requirements.

Our Pallet Rack Repair 4 Step Process

We follow a structured process to ensure repairs are engineered, compliant, and professionally installed.

1. On Site Evaluation
We conduct a thorough inspection of pallet rack uprights and beams. Each damaged component is documented in its current condition. Upon request, we provide a written report for internal safety and compliance records.

2. Written Evaluation and Cost Estimate
You receive a detailed repair recommendation and cost estimate. Many facilities choose to phase repairs over time. We help identify the most critical structural concerns first so resources are allocated appropriately.

3. Engineering and Component Design
Required repair components are custom designed to match your rack profile and damage location. Approval documents are reviewed and signed prior to manufacturing. Materials are then ordered and delivered.

4. Professional Installation
Once components arrive on site, our certified and experienced installation crew completes the repair efficiently and safely with minimal disruption to operations.

From initial survey through final installation, we provide a complete one source solution for warehouses across Ohio.
